Our Blog

Welcome to Amityville Apothecary!

Owners

We’re so excited you’re here! Seriously! The past few weeks have been such a labor of love. We’ve put so much of our individual time and spirit into the shoppe- literally head-down in production mode- that we didn’t even have time to get a website going right away! But here it is- isn’t she beautiful?

We wanted to take a little bit of time to introduce ourselves and why we created this space.

Recently coming into our own spiritual awakening over the past two years, Dina and

Danielle  wanted to create a space of no judgement. Because let’s face it- there is so much to learn, and people will spend lifetimes becoming experts on any one modality, let alone a few!

Often we’ve walked into a shop and felt intimidated. Embarking upon spirituality is sensitive. There are emotions that need to be processed; oftentimes old wounds come up (at least they have for us). The term “safe space’ is sort of everywhere right now- but that’s exactly what we wanted to create.

Our space is filled with carefully curated products (literally all hand picked by either Dina or Danielle). Monthly we feature a roster of guest lecturers that are here to guide you in your spiritual quest. If you need a little more support, our healers are here for you with a selection of modalities to soothe your mind, body and soul.

We’re here for you, and we see you - no matter where you are in your spiritual journey- we’re so excited you’re here- and we can’t wait to meet you!

Green Cleaning with Essential Oils for Summer

As the Summer season approaches many of the gorgeous herbs we find in our garden have also been distilled into essential oils enabling us to use the herb in a whole new, green cleaning, way..

From refreshing to relaxation here are a few green cleaning recipes to enjoy this Summer Season.

Lemongrass [Cymbopogon citratus]

lemongrass is excellent for tired muscles

Lemongrass is an intoxicating essential oil that has many purposes. First it’s an excellent household cleaner. It’s also great for musculoskeletal aches and pains so after a long day in the garden add 4 drops to a tablespoon of carrier oil (coconut or olive oil would work well) and rub into your tired muscles.

Lemongrass has also been known to aid the immune and central nervous system so I simple whiff of the bottle that has an orifice reducer can often ease a nervous mind. One of the oldest grasses used for ayurvedic food and ceremony for thousands of years.

A good antifungal and helpful for headaches, Lemongrasses best secret is released when it is blended with other essential oils to create a powerful bug spray.

Pair with Peppermint, Lavender, Patchouli, or Geranium for a safe and effective insect repellent.  One caution is it may cause irritation on sensitive skin. Always dilute and conduct a patch test before applying.

Sweet Orange [Citrus sinensis]

Gentle and powerful is a perfect description of Sweet Orange.  Useful for many ailments, Orange has antibacterial qualities but is also known to be calming and soothing.  It’s an excellent choice for respiratory support, clearing infections, and has impressive effects in supporting digestion.

With a citrusy, bright and fresh aroma, Sweet Orange is often used in natural cleaning products as it is an air purifier–great for a room refreshing spray. Blend with Lavender and Geranium for a soothing scent to ease tension and alleviate exhaustion. Sweet Orange can be skin sensitizing so be careful with direct contact to the skin. In the rare case of skin discomfort use a vegetable oil (olive, coconut, sunflower etc.) on the area and to remove the essential oil.

Sweet Basil  {Ocimum basilicum]

Known as ‘Sweet’ Basil  this essential oils gem is herbaceous and a little spicy. Helpful for headaches, plus muscle and inflammation it’s a favorite on an Aromatherapists’ short list. This antibacterial, antiseptic, and even a little sedative essential oil has a long history and was once one of the most commonly found herbs in any medicinal kit. Sweet Basil  is often described as warm, green, spicy, herbaceous. Blend with rosemary, laurel, and peppermint with a lively and herbaceous blend.

If you are interested in learning more about blending, I am teaching an upcoming class on Introduction to Blending with Essential Oils Saturday, June 22 from 2pm to 4pm at the Amityville Apothecary. In this class we will go deeper into understanding how to blend for your goal. Space is limited, register in advance at http://bit.ly/2QkWBM5

Amityville Apothecary also carries custom synergy blends I formulated especially for the shop. Visit Amityville Apothecary to smell them today!

Since the kitchen tends to be the most odorous room in the house, why not use these herbaceous essential oils as a green cleaning freshening spray?

Alternatively, you could even use a 2-4 drops in a whole bucket of water clean counters and floors. To make a room spray:

Developing Intuitive Gifts

One of the advantages of developing your intuitive gifts (psychic & mediumistic) is that you learn how to recognize messages and signs you are already receiving but may not realize.

Name that tune?

A common way our loved ones in Spirit reach out to us is by sending us a song. All of a sudden we have a song repeating in our mind. People often comment they have a particular song stuck in their head but many do not realize that it could be the very answer they have been seeking.

The song may be one you would connect to a loved one and it is their calling card to let you know they are around. Songs are more effective sometimes because we routinely dismiss random thoughts popping through our mind but will allow and focus upon a song.

For example, on more than one occasion my father has sent the song, “My funny Valentine” to my medium friends who I am with. His name is Valentine.

Let it be?

Alternatively the song could be an answer to a question or a decision you need to make. I often receive the Beatles song, “Let it be” when I have sought guidance about whether to take a particular action. When I receive this song, it is an answer to hold off at this time.

There are many other ways the Spirit world can send messages or use symbols to convey answers to you. Developing your intuitive gifts often enables you to recognize these messages.

If you’d like to further develop your gifts, consider attending our upcoming psychic mediumship development workshop in July! If a workshop isn’t for you, but you’d like to speak to a psychic, come to our monthly group readings!

Why understanding blending factors is important for aromatherapy

If you’ve ever tried to mix a few of your essential oils together to create a blend, then you know how important it is to understand how much of each product you should use.

learn blending with Jill Griffin

Early on in my essential oil exploration I would get so excited about creating a blend.

I would purchase my apothecary amber glass bottle to create my mixture and then I would carefully fill the bottle with jojoba carrier oil. I would then guess on how many drops of my favorite essential oils to use. The result was either so strong I felt like If I applied the mix I was going to stink up the room, or so light that I continued to pour more drops into my creation using most of the essential oil bottle. Since I was also interested in the therapeutic benefit and not just the scent, I wondered if I was wasting the essential oil or causing a safety concern.

When I began by aromatherapy studies, I gained an understanding of the Aromatic Strength of an essential oil.

I learned the concept of top, middle, and bottom notes and how the scent may change over time due to air exposure. Many experts talk about Blending Weights or Blending Factors and how to use this concept as you begin to create your aromatic products for both therapeutic benefits and aroma. It requires simple math but the end result is worth it.

For the beginner it can be as simple as selecting 2-3 essential oils and sniff each one individually with your nose.

Which smells the most potent? Which has the lightest scent? How many drops do you want to use of your essential oils? Where on your body do you plan on using the blend? How big is the bottle you are putting the product in? What therapeutic benefit are you seeking? These questions help us figure out how much to use based on the intended purpose.

Here’s a recipe I created that showcases the importance of Blending Factor.

This recipe takes into consideration the top, middle, and base note and the therapeutic benefits of the essential oils. In this recipe I formulated for relaxation and sleep.

Sleep Body Oil Recipe:

Equipment

  • Medium size glass Pyrex Cup
  • Metal spoon or glass stirring rod
  • 1-ounce glass dropper bottle
  • Small Pipette or funnel for ease of transferring body oil into glass dropper bottle

Ingredients

  • Carrier oil:  about .80 of an of Jojoba carrier oil (about 1.5 Tablespoons)
  • Essential oils:
    • Vetiver (base note)4 drops
    • Lavender (mid-note) 6 drops
    • Orange (top-note) 8 drops

Instructions:

  • Mix all the ingredients together well with a spoon.
  • Pour into a sterile dropper bottle/s, if properly stored this body oil will last up to 6 months or longer.
  • Make sure to write date and ingredients on a label to attach to dropper bottle.
  • Gently massage in with clean fingertips on neck, arms, stomach or chest. Avoid mouth, eyes, and open wounds.
  • Recommended for nighttime use only. Do not use in the daytime if you have used orange essential oil.

Manifesting Abundance

We’re always manifesting. Even manifesting abundance!

This is important- so let me repeat it- WE ARE ALWAYS MANIFESTING.

Every single thing you have in your life right now- whether good or bad- you manifested it. Some of you- I can hear it already- are all like, “no way, I did not manifest this ish.” But, ya did, and the first step is admitting your role and responsibility before you can take steps to change it.

Stop right now and take responsibility.. right this second.. that way you can manifest what you really want in your life.

Because you can’t bring in anything new if there is no room for it.

Why am I getting all up in your business about this? Because it is May- the month for manifestation. And no one manifests better than our Taurus brothers and sisters.

Everything is energy- Even Money!

To call abundance into our lives it’s as simple as matching the energetic frequency of abundance- and that is high vibe baby! Good news is that getting into the vibrational frequency that matches abundance is an easy practice. Steps can be added each day to enhance our own vibration. And the good news is, we can take a teeny step a day so we don’t fall in the overwhelm trap.

Simple Steps for Raising Vibration and Manifestation.

The first step is get grateful. Seriously. The more grateful we are for what we currently have in our lives, the easier abundance will flow to us with grace and ease. Think about this: you want to do favors for the people that are thankful, right? I know the people that take me for granted leave me feeling like I don’t want to help them out anymore. Sound familiar? Be grateful for what you have, even if it is as simple as a hot morning cup of coffee. Once you get into the attitude of gratitude, watch how easy you can manifest.

Get into the Vortex!

I absolutely love the Abraham Hicks morning rampage meditation. It’s an amazing way to set intention and frequency for your day! The Universe wants us to be successful and abundant but we need to co-create, not just wait! Try this meditation and let us know what you think about it!

Make Room!

Remember what I said before? You can’t bring in anything new if there is no room for it. Go ahead and Marie Kondo your closet, cancel those subscriptions, reevaluate your relationships. What are you holding onto tightly? Where are you restricting flow and ease because it is what you know? Pay attention to those areas, journal about it, dig deep.

Then… set intentions

Once you make room, or identify where you can make room, set a list of those items, people, and circumstances you want to call into your life. Once you set that list, make an action plan of simple steps you can take to stay high vibe and lay the groundwork for calling your intentions to you.

Need help?

How to Smudge your Space.

how to smudge your space with sage
smudging 101

Let’s face it, everyone wants less negativity and lower vibrational energy in their lives. One of the easiest, most inexpensive, and effective ways to kick negativity to the curb is through smudging. Let’s talk How To Smudge!

So, what’s smudging?

By definition, it’s a ceremony practiced by burning sacred herbs for spiritual cleansing purposes. Smudging is practiced by Indigenous peoples of the Americas (North and South), but the tradition of burning herbs and resins in ceremony has a broad, spiritual base.

White Sage, Mugwort, Bay Leaves, Blue Spruce, Palo Santo and frankincense are herbs and resins that are used during ceremony to cleanse and purify space.

At Amityville Apothecary, we sell quite a bit of White Sage (salvia apiana) and Palo Santo. Clients instinctually understand they can turn to Sage and Palo Santo to purify space, but aren’t quite sure how to accomplish it.

Here’s a simple Smudging ceremony to make a part of your spiritual practice.

First, light your sage or palo santo. At the Apothecary, we like to use White Sage to clear negativity and Palo Santo to bring in good vibrations.

Remember, always be safe and respect fire.

Prepare a fire safe bowl or dish to tamper your Sage and Palo Santo in. Abalone shell is the traditional smudge bowl because it represents water (we’re a little obsessed with having all four elements represented during our smudge ritual).

Light the end of your sage or palo santo until you see a red ember. Fan the ember with a feather, smudge fan, or even your hand, in order to feed the ember with oxygen.

Now it’s time to allow the smoke to do its work.

Visualize the smoke absorbing all negative energies and energies that no longer serve and lifting them out of your space. Perhaps try the following prayer:

I ask any and all energies that do not serve the highest of love and the greatest of good for those that live and enter this home to disperse. So it is. Thank you, thank you, thank you. For other prayer ideas, please visit this awesome article at the-numinous.com

Once you visualize the lower energies attaching to the smoke and say your prayer, open your windows and doors and allow the smoke to leave your home.

It’s amazing how different your home will feel after smudging. Feel free to contact us to learn more about the smudge sticks and accessories we carry. We’d love to guide you during this very important ritual.

Crystal Healing 101

It’s easy to become crystal obsessed. After all, what’s not to love? They’re sparkly and fascinating. There is literally a crystal for everything! So much so that oftentimes my clients become overwhelmed. They aren’t sure which crystal to pick, and further, they aren’t sure how to use the crystals once they take them home. Read further for Crystal Healing 101!

I oftentimes hear, “I like crystals but don’t know what to DO with them.”

Sound familiar? Fear not! This blog will take you step-by-step through laying on of crystals (also known as crystal healing). You’ll learn how to place crystals on your body and which crystals are made for what purpose and body part.

Why place crystals on your body? Well, scientifically crystals have a very stable structure; crystals are actually one of the most ordered structures on Earth. Because of their remarkable order, they emit stable energy. This is why crystals are used in clocks and computer chips! By laying crystals on and around our body (or wearing them in jewelry) we allow the body’s energetic frequency to become entrained by the crystal’s frequency.

Simply put, the energetic frequency of the crystal overpowers our own, making our energy less chaotic, and more ordered.

So, how to begin? The colors and frequency of crystals corresponds to the body’s chakra system; it is almost foolproof and there really is no way to get it wrong. The most important rule is always to start and end with the chakra at the feet (Earth Star Chakra); the crystals at your feet will be the first crystal placed and the last crystal removed. Starting at the feet ensures that you remain grounded through your session, allowing you to feel more comfortable and less buzzy.

From the Earth Star Chakra move upwards from the Root Chakra to the Crown Chakra, placing a corresponding crystal. Keep in mind, you don’t need to place crystals at every chakra point. If you’re feeling a blockage at the throat, for example, you can ground at your feet and place a piece of blue kyanite at your throat. It doesn’t hurt, however, to place a crystal at each chakra point.

Not sure where to get started? Here’s a list of crystals and stones that correspond to each chakra (note the diagram that shows where each chakra is located- note the Earth Star Chakra is not shown, and that Chakra is located at the bottom of the feet).

Seven Main Chakras

Earth Star Chakra (represented by the color black and gray and governs connection to the Earth, grounding, protection, and transmutation of energy that no longer serves): hematite, black tourmaline, smoky quartz, and black kyanite.

Root Chakra (represented by the color red and governs primal needs, security, and physical energy): garnet, ruby, red jasper

Sacral Chakra (represented by the color orange and governs creativity and sexuality): carnelian, vanadinite, orange calcite

Solar Plexus Chakra (represented by the color yellow and governs personal power, intellect and ambition): citrine, tiger’s eye, yellow apatite, pyrite

Heart Chakra (represented by the color green or pink and governs love for self and others and compassion): rose quartz, malachite, watermelon tourmaline, pink tourmaline.

Throat Chakra (represented by the color light blue and governs communication, self-expression, truth and manifestation): blue kyanite, amazonite, blue lace agate

Third Eye Chakra (represented by the colors indigo and purple and governs intuition, spiritual awareness, and inner wisdom): azurite, amethyst, lapis lazuli

Crown Chakra (represented by the color violet or white and governs connection to Universal Source/God Energy and all that is): clear quartz, danburite, selenite

For more information on Chakras and the subtle, energetic body check out this great post by yogiapproved.com!

Once you pick the crystals you want to work with, begin to place them at each chakra.

You can choose to place a crystal or crystals at each chakra point, or place where you feel they are most needed. Take a few deep, centering breaths, call yourself into the present time, and listen to your intuition. It will not steer you wrong! Remember, however, to always ground yourself with a crystal at your feet no matter what other crystals you are using. Again, this crystal is the first you will place and the last you will remove.

Relax and allow the crystals to penetrate your energetic and emotional bodies. Perhaps listen to relaxing music or simply focus on your breathing and pay attention to what you feel and what thoughts come up. Keep a journal handy to record your experiences. Your experience can vary by day, by hour, and by crystal used.

If you feel “buzzy” or “uneasy” with the crystal on your body, remove them! Laying on of Stones should not be uncomfortable. Just please remember to remove the crystals at your feet last! If you’re a crystal beginner, start of with five or ten minutes of crystal healing at time, and work up from there. Do what feels right, and never force it!

There are hundreds of different crystals, and dozens of choices that correspond to each chakra on your body.  Below find a few crystal “families” and the correspondences. Each family comes in a variety of colors that correspond to each chakra.

  • Quartz is a master healer. It magnifies energy, clears and cleanses. Amethyst and citrine are both members of the quartz family.
  • Calcite brings movement and flow where there is physical stagnation.
  • Tourmaline deals with the emotional body and heart issues.
  • Fluorite brings balance and order. Helps mind issues. Absorbs and neutralizes harmful and negative energy.

I hope this blog helps introduce crystal healing to you. Remember to always follow your intuition; your body and your higher self knows what crystals are best where. Try not to second guess yourself, relax, and approach each healing without attachment and with curiosity.

Astrological Compatibility

I’d like to make an astrological dating suggestion (applicable to ALL relationships actually related to compatibility and understanding others… (it’s called Synastry, in astrology)…

This will help you understand how a person acts, thinks, operates… so you can better know their strengths and potential weaknesses, which are rooted in their astrology… An Astrology Natal Chart (Birth chart) is a Blueprint to your Soul… it really helps you understand people

Each zodiac sign is associated with an element (Fire, Air, Water, Earth) and a Modality (Cardinal, Mutable, Fixed)….

Modalities

– Cardinal signs are “starters”… get things going. Think of a sprinter out of the gate with a burst of energy… (known to lose momentum after things get started… ready to pass on to next)
– Mutable signs are malleable and flexible and adjustable to different situations, go with the flow…
– Fixed signs don’t like to change. They can be stubborn and find comfort in routine and security, they do not like changes… (great, dependable worker bees, dependable, reliable)…

Elements

– Fire signs: passionate, action oriented sign often expressive and bold and simply “fiery”…
– Air signs are the thinkers and the intellectuals/cerebral people who’s mind is always going and yearns to understand and know and learn
– Earth signs are grounded and stable, they like stability, dependability, rational understanding, material comfort and rewards. Tangible evidence
– Water signs rule emotions… They feel things deeply

There are Ten planets which are in charge of different parts of your personality. For example:

– Sun represents your sense of self, the core essence of who you are
– Your Ascendant is known as your “Rising sign”, which is how the world sees you at first impression… it’s how you present to the world… the mask you wear….
– Mercury rules how you communicate
– Saturn is the planet of discipline and structure
– Moon rules your emotions and how you are at your most vulnerable and your shadow side
– Venus represents Love

Each planet has a different “personality” which is the associated zodiac sign.

So, my Sun is Libra (Cardinal Air), but I have a Leo Moon (Fixed Fire) and I’m a Sagittarius Rising (Mutable Fire), Venus in Leo (Fixed Fire)…

I won’t even get into the placement of each planet in houses here…

My point that I wish to make in this mini-astrology lesson is that I encourage you to pull charts for the people in your life to understand them and to help you relate to them.

If someone has many planets in their chart which are heavy Fire and Cardinal signs,…. they will likely be bold and adventurous and direct and take action and can sometimes seem volatile or unpredictable or sometimes harsh… they may get easily bored with the same boring routine every day of their life…

Conversely, if someone has many planets in Fixed and earth Signs… they will love routine and material comforts and will find comfort in that… A heavily weighted fire person may find that boring…

Earth signs like material and security… Water is emotional… Air is thought… Fire is action…

There is no “Right” or “Wrong” about any combination of signs… it’s more the fact that each sign has a Light side and a Shadow side … understanding them for who they are and then managing your interpersonal communication with them accordingly. Some aspects will be more compatible than others… but then again, sometimes opposites attract too…

Understanding the other person and communicating is key.

If you’re interested, you can pull free natal charts here: https://cafeastrology.com/free-natal-chart-report.html

You can also book a birth chart reading with our resident Astrologer Jessica at our shop. More info by clicking here.

Have fun! I hope you find astrology as fascinating as I do (yes, this satiates my Libra Cardinal Air desire to know things 😉)…

Spirituality of Lent

Yesterday marked Ash Wednesday. The first of forty days of Lent. While Lent is a period of devotion for Catholic Christians there’s a spiritual theme that is applicable to any religion or faith. The spirituality of Lent is one of introspection, self reflection, turning within, meeting the ego, and stripping away the parts of ourselves that no longer serve us to get closer to our creator God.

The Lenten period commemorates the time when Jesus fasted in the desert for forty days. Catholic Christians around the world are now conducting their own type of fast. A scroll down Facebook reveals many declarations of what people are “giving up” for Lent. Popular giveaways: sugar, chocolate, coffee, drinking, and even Facebook.

Turn away from the Ego during Lent and get closer to your True Self.

Pope Francis states that Lent is a time to turn to God. To slow down and “give up” all the things that keep us busy and separate from a spiritual life. Surely we can all pay attention to this message. How often are we going non stop! Working an extra hour at the job to get a promotion, driving the kids around, scrolling down Instagram for a few more minutes. All of these actions can be distraction from taking time to pray and connect with our spiritual selves. For Pope Francis’ remarks at the start of this year’s Lent, this is a wonderful read.

The Lenten period is asking us to turn away from busy and to trust. To quiet our constantly thinking minds and pray or meditate. To turn away from feelings of jealousy, of hate, of resentment. What feelings, thoughts and old stories can you “give up” this Lent?

Choose peace. Choose Joy. Choose Love.

Perhaps you can commit to getting closer to your true self, to turn away from your ego mind over the next 40 days and listen to the inner voice of love. Choose love. Choose peace. Connect to the universe and to creation. Recognize your connection to every living thing and those that came before you.

May you have a beautiful Lenten season of self reflection, peace, and joy. If you’d like to join us in meditation and honoring of the beginning of the spring season, we’d love to see you at our Ostara Celebration on March 20th. It’s free!

Psychic Mediumship 101

Always wanted go see a psychic medium? A little nervous? Perhaps you aren’t sure what to expect? We get a lot of questions about psychic mediums at the Apothecary, so here’s a little psychic mediumship 101 so you know what to expect from a reading.

So, what comes to mind when you hear the word psychic? Somewhere in the recesses of my psyche, an image of a gypsy woman in a head wrap staring into a crystal ball comes to view. Just earlier this week I was walking around New York City and laughed at a sandwich board advertising psychic services including “Chaker Cleansing” (it’s Chakra by the way).

One of our goals at Amityville Apothecary is to take the everyday reality of psychic mediumship out of the spiritual closet and away from the seedy recesses of strip malls and bring it into the light.

psychic neon brings back memories and icky feelings

Chances are, you’re psychic too! Seriously. Explained on the most basic level. psychic mediumship is the ability to translate energetic frequencies of souls that have crossed over as well as read the frequencies of the Akashic Records (more about the records HERE).

Have you ever had a random thought just pop into your head? Wake up with a song “playing” over and over in your mind? That could be the result of your brain picking up energetic frequency from another realm!

Think of your brain as a filter, not just a human super computer. Just like we need a radio to pick up the frequency of radio waves in order to hear music, our brains can be tuned to receive and translate the energies that are departed loved ones, thoughts and even feelings of others.

Some psychics can actually hear departed love ones. Others see images in their mind and it is up to them to “translate” them. Still others have physical sensations in their body (such as feeling tightness in their chest when connecting to a crossed-over loved one that passed from a heart condition).

Most psychic mediums need to translate the energy they are tapping into (whether they are hearing, feeling or seeing); in order to do so effectively, they may require yes or no validations during their readings. Instead of trying to hold back information to “test” the psychic, confirm what they are translating so they can follow the thought further. By the way, there are different types of psychic mediums- more information on the different kinds can be found HERE.

If you’re looking for specific information from a psychic medium and don’t receive it- don’t be disappointed. Often times you hear the message you are meant to receive. If you receive a message you weren’t expecting or hear from a departed loved one you aren’t expecting, don’t despair! Know that you are receiving what you need, when you need it!

If you’d like to experience a psychic medium, Amityville Apothecary has a monthly group reading. Every attendee is read in a loving environment that is judgment free. Be sure to visit our event page for details on when readings are held, and be sure to check out our other events too!

Love Yourself

a self-love ritual for Valentine’s Day

Even if you’re part of a couple there’s just so much “stuff” attached to this holiday. Just the thought of the day sends me right back to High School; the panic of not receiving a pink carnation Valentine gram from an admirer (secret or otherwise). The pure envy of watching the popular girls prance down the hallway with what seemed like a wagon full of carnations (did literally the entire school adore them? It certainly seemed so at the time). No wonder why the whole “love yourself” message gets lost on me… the stories of not being worthy of a single carnation still chase me!

This year we should rewrite our Valentine’s Day story. Seriously! Enough revisiting the past and licking old wounds! Whether in a couple or flying solo- the one person we should be writing Shakespearean sonnets to is ourselves.

Self Love. Self Care. I know- over played.. over blogged. But for good reason. We’re terrible to ourselves. The self talk is often nasty and often we put ourselves last. Heck- I know I’m guilty of it.

This week- whether on Valentine’s Day or not- take a moment to celebrate yourself with this simple ritual. And seriously- no excuses- we’re making this simple enough that you can’t say “I don’t have the tools necessary”. And we’re not going to force you to get into a bath either. If taking a bath is your thing- well, by all means, conduct your ritual there. But if you’re like me and you just don’t want to- then don’t!

What You Need:

  • writing instrument of your choice
  • a piece of paper or journal
  • a quiet space- bedroom, bathtub, backyard, living room, or comfy chair. Any place you can relax.

Take some time to write a love letter to yourself.. it doesn’t need to be in narrative. It can just be a list. No excuses. Write down all the reasons why you’re amazing. From the way you snort when you laugh to the way you can see small details and appreciate them. From your excellent cake recipe to your love of cussing and caffeine (ok.. I just described myself)… write it down.

Take a long look at all the things that make you, you! Even if there are some not-so-awesome things.. put them down there.. and give them love. Give them grace. Cause you are deserving of love exactly how you are. Right now.

There is nothing you need to change. You are perfectly you. Deserving of love and grace right in this moment.

So take a moment and write it all down- even if only for five minutes. And marvel in the you, you are. Breathe into the you on the paper. Thank yourself- for showing up. For trying. For making an excellent cup of coffee… for just being a human being in this moment- that’s hard too!

And that’s it-that’s our ritual- if you want to “next-level” it, seal that self-love narrative into some quartz (rose, clear– whatever you have), and allow it to send you love when you need it. If you need help picking a stone, feel free to contact us!

We wish you a Valentine’s Day full of love for yourself. We see you and we love you.
